Synopsis

In dieser Wendezeit, kurz bevor sich die moderne Atomphysik durchsetzt, begibt sich Gustav Theodor Fechner (1801-1887) auf eine gef�hrliche Gratwanderung. �berzeugt von der Zukunftsperspektive atomistischer Ans�tze sammelt und ordnet er Begr�ndungszusammenh�nge f�r eine moderne Physik, jedoch ohne dabei die Philosophie auszugrenzen. Im Gegenteil, die philosophische Arbeit ist unerl��lich f�r den begrifflichen Abschlu� der physikalischen Untersuchungen. Fechners Werk markiert in der Wissenschaftsgeschichte den ersten und letzten Versuch, eine fruchtbare Synthese zwischen quantitativen und qualitativen Erkenntnismethoden zu schaffen, ohne die beiden Ans�tze zu vermischen. Erst 150 Jahre sp�ter, am Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts, nachdem die empirischen Naturwissenschaften bereits an Grenzen gesto�en sind, werden Fechners "zu fr�he" ganzheitliche �berlegungen wieder aktuell.
