Se examina la organizacion particular del discurso de viaje a traves de su desviacion de los modelos de viaje europeos, de la revision detallada del itinerario, de la fragmentacion narrativa, de sus informantes, de la incorporacion de la historia autobiografica, de su mirada y de su memoria. Especial atencion se da al papel del viajero-narrador en su forcejeo narrativo ambivalente entre la descripcion y la interpretacion.

El autor: Lilianet Brintrup es profesora asistente de Espanol y Literatura Hispanoamericana en Humboldt State University, Arcata, California. Nacio en Chile y actualmente es residente en los Estados Unidos. Recibio su Magister en Literatura Peninsular en la Universidad de Concepcion, Chile y su Doctorado en Literatura Hispanoamericana en The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Publicaciones de su especialidad se encuentran en revistas profesionales; en el presente, L. Brintrup ha extendido su investigacion a otros territorios y viajeros hispanoamericanos del siglo XIX. Recientemente ha dado termino a su libro de poesia En Tierra Firme.
