From the Austrian rallies of 1910 to the final international races in the 1970s, Alpine rallies were always dangerous and demanding. The predecessor of today's international rally sport, they were an incredible test of endurance for early pioneers and their cars. This book, written by a seven-times Alpine rally competitor features rare photographs and charts the full history of these illustrious motorsport events. It lists all the winners of the Alpine Cups through six decades, details the French Alpine itinerary and charts the successes of British marques Jaguar and Rolls Royce in the event. Martin Pfundner, born in Vienna in 1930, took part in Alpine Rallies in the fifties, and became Clerk of the Course for the 1st and 2nd Austrian Formula One Grand Prix at Zeltweg (1963/64). He is co-founder of Vienna's monthly Autorevue, and editor of the German language version of "Automobile Year". Latest title in the sporting nostalgia series "Those Were The Days...". It is the essential reading for motorsports enthusiasts and motoring historians. It charts how the Alpine trials spread from Austria to Italy, Switzerland, France and Germany.
