Synopsis

"City-Port" focuses on the unique architecture, development, needs, and problems shared by city-ports all over the world. It is divided into four sections, each focusing on a different aspect of waterfront architecture. The first section presents fifteen case studies of port cities, their architecture, restoration, revitalization, and urbanization - cities include Liverpool, Edinburgh, Rotterdam, San Francisco, Sydney and Venice. The second section looks at ten port cities in the south of Italy to present an overview of the initiatives put in place to improve urban waterfront areas in the region. Section three is dedicated to the city of Palermo's celebrated urban waterfront. The volumes concludes with the Portus Architecture Prize, a competition for architects, landscape architects, and engineers for the best innovations and solutions with regards to the renewal and revitalization of urban waterfront zones.
