Professor Dr. Michael ten Hompel ist Inhaber des Lehrstuhls fur Forder- und Lagerwesen an der Technischen Universitat Dortmund und geschaftsfuhrender Institutsleiter am Fraunhofer-Institut fur Materialfluss und Logistik IML. Er studierte Elektrotechnik an der RWTH Aachen und promovierte an der Universitat Witten/Herdecke. Neben seiner wissenschaftlichen Tatigkeit ist Professor ten Hompel auch als Unternehmer tatig gewesen. So grundete er 1988 die GamBit GmbH und fuhrte das Unternehmen, das sich vorrangig mit der Entwicklung und Realisierung von Warehouse-Management-Systemen beschaftigt, bis zu seinem Ausscheiden im Februar 2000 als geschaftsfuhrender Gesellschafter. Professor Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Schmidt ist Inhaber des Lehrstuhls fur Technische Logistik an der Technischen Universitat Dresden. Zuvor war er Abteilungsleiter Maschinen und Anlagen am Fraunhofer-Institut fur Materialfluss und Logistik in Dortmund. Seine Tatigkeitsschwerpunkte liegen in der Entwicklung und Gestaltung innerbetrieblicher Produktions- und Logistiksysteme. Er studierte Maschinenbau an der Universitat Dortmund und Industrial Engineering am Georgia Institute of Technology. Nach dem Studium war er als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter, spater als Oberingenieur am Lehrstuhl fur Forder- und Lagerwesen an der Universitat Dortmund tatig.
