Synopsis

Edited by Jeffrey Young and Jacqueline Malouf

The Great Cake Places book is the definitive guide to London's 100 best and truly exceptional cake venues. A must have for all sweet toothed cake enthusiasts!

In the book you will find venues within the categories of Cupcakes and Bakery, Coffee & Cake, Afternoon Tea, Wedding Cakes and Chocolates & Sweets, as well as a list of the top 20 cake venues in London - for those of you who want the best of the best!

For each venue we have included a review and a detailed description of the cake venue and their sweet treats, as well as a rating out of 5 cupcakes. We have also included an overview of menu pricing and details such as owner, pastry chef, opening hours, tea supplier, year the venue opened plus lots of delicious information including signature cake, menu details and for some venues, original recipes straight from the venues themselves!

Every venue that appears in Great Cake Places has been visited and rated by our expert team. The ratings fall into two separate categories: Cake Rating and Overall Rating. Ratings are given for Cupcakes and Bakery, Coffee and Cake, and Afternoon Tea venues only.

Cake Rating

The Cake Rating is not only about the taste, it takes into account numerous other 'cake credentials' such as the cake's presentation, visual appeal, innovation, level of skill involved and whether the cake is made in-house.

The following question is the guiding principle used to determine the Cake Rating:
To what extent does this cake place deliver an amazing 'cake' experience?

Overall Rating

In combination with the Cake Rating the Overall Rating considers to what extent the venue delivers a 'wow factor'. Elements that are taken into account include the atmosphere, design, customer service and display, among other factors.

To determine the Overall Rating the following question is used as the guiding principle:
How does the combination of the cake and cake store experience achieve exceptional levels of excitement for cake-lovers?
