Indian court revokes Jaswant Singh book ban
7th September 2009
An Indian high court has revoked a ban on the book by the former veteran BJP party member Jaswant Singh.
A ban on the renowned author's latest work, a controversial book on the founder of Pakistan Mohammed Ali Jinnah, also led to his expulsion from the country's nationalist opposition party.
The court ruled that the ban, imposed by the Gujarat state government, was imposed without satisfactory reasons being given.
According to DNA India, the three-judge bench at the court said: 'The language of the opening portion of the notification denotes that "it has come to the notice of the government of Gujarat about publication of the book".
'The government has, therefore, noticed only the publication of the book and not what the book contains.'
BJP chief Rajnath Singh warned that the party would take action against any members that favour Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the ideas of whom the party is opposed to.
