Hired: Six Months Undercover in Low-Wage Britain
|
|
Author and investigative journalist James Bloodworth joins us for an examination of low-wage Britain to coincide with the release of his new book, Hired.
We all define ourselves by our profession to a lesser or greater extent. But what if our job was demeaning, poorly paid, and tedious? Cracking open Britain's divisions, journalist James Bloodworth spent six months taking on the country's worst jobs. Living on the meagre proceeds he sought to tap into the anxieties and hopes of those he encountered: from the British working-class, young students striving to make ends meet and Eastern European immigrants.
James is joined by journalist and editor of Little Atoms magazine, Padraig Reidy offering a window into the underworld of Britain’s employment crisis.
Tickets: £5 standard.
Venue: The Auditorium at Foyles, Level 6, 107 Charing Cross Road
