Eighty Four: A Poetry Anthology in aid of CALM

Wednesday 3rd April 2019 6:30pm - 8pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event

Join us for an evening of poetry and discussion for the London launch of Eighty Four, a courageous new collection from Verve Poetry Press in collaboration with suicide prevention organisation CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

Curated by Helen Calcutt, Eighty Four addresses the profound impact of male suicide through poetry. From the baby in the bath who knows their father is gone to the woman whose father haunts her through the window, the anthology—named for the 84 men in the UK who take their own lives every week—tackles the experience and impact of male suicide from those left behind, those affected by loss, and those who have contended with suicidal thoughts themselves.

Calcutt will discuss the aims of the anthology alongside one of the featured poets and a spokesperson from CALM (both to be confirmed), chaired by poet Peter Raynard. The conversation will be followed by readings from Calcutt and contributors Salena Godden and Anthony Anaxagorou.

This event is organised in collaboration with CALM. You can find out more about their work here.
