Literary Event, Signing, Chargeable Event
We’re delighted to team up with Gollancz Publishing for Gollanczfest 2019—the UK’s premiere sci-fi, fantasy and horror book festival.
Get yourself along to our Charing Cross Rd flagship and the Phoenix Artist's Club just across the street for a day of panels, workshops and signings. Hear your favourite authors debate everything, from travelling at faster-than-light speed to who wrote the best magic system; receive expert advice on your writing project from leading voices in the business, and meet all the writers themselves as they sign your favourite books.
As in previous years, Gollanczfest will be running two separate strands—the Reader’s ticket will grant you access to the panels and speaker events in the auditorium at Foyles, whilst the Writer’s Ticket opens the doors to the Phoenix Artist's Club to those wanting to improve their craft and receive an insight into the publishing process.
Take a look at the full schedule for the Afternoon-Only Writer’s event at the Phoenix Artist's Club below:
AFTERNOON-ONLY GOLLANCZFEST WRITER’S TICKET – £30
2:00pm – 4:30pm: This session will consist of two panels presented by a mix of authors and publishing industry professionals, plus a session of hour-long ‘speed-advice’ where attendees will get the opportunity to sit down with various of our authors in small groups and discuss their writing and the publishing process.
Authors appearing include: Ben Aaronovitch, Joanne Harris, Ellen Kushner, Miles Cameron, Alexander Dan Vilhjálmsson, Aliette de Bodard, Rob Grant, Andrew Marshall, Pat Cadigan, Emma Newman, Ian McDonald & Simon Morden.
This ticket grants you access to afternoon events taking place at The Phoenix including…
2:00pm – 2:30pm: In Conversation with Ben Aaronovitch and Joanne Harris: Developing the habit of writing. How do you battle the daily distractions of life and actually get words on a page? This panel will be moderated by author Ellen Kushner.
2:30pm – 3:00pm: The Agents Panel: Hear from agents Julie Crisp of the Julie Crisp Literary Agency and Ed Wilson of the Johnson & Alcock Literary Agency as they talk through what they look for when signing up a new author and the role of an agent in making your book a reality. This panel will be moderated by Marcus Gipps, Editorial Director of Gollancz & SF Gateway.
3:00pm – 3:15pm: Break
3:15pm – 4:15pm: Author Speed-Advice Sessions: Participants will be put into groups of four to five people and sat around small tables with a Gollancz author. Participants will then have the chance to ask whatever questions they’d like about the writing process, trouble they’re having with their novels, or how to get published. Every 15 minutes the experts at the tables will rotate giving groups a new person to speak to and a different perspective. Everyone will have four sessions in total. This session will be run by Marcus Gipps, Editorial Director of Gollancz & SF Gateway. Authors participating in these Speed-Advice Sessions include, Miles Cameron, Alexander Dan Vilhjálmsson, Aliette de Bodard, Ellen Kushner, Joanne Harris, Ben Aaronovitch, Rob Grant, Andrew Marshall, Pat Cadigan, Emma Newman, Ian McDonald and Simon Morden.
4:15pm – 4:30pm Signing: Featuring Miles Cameron, Alexander Dan Vilhjálmsson, Aliette de Bodard, Ellen Kushner, Joanne Harris, Ben Aaronovitch, Rob Grant, Andrew Marshall, Pat Cadigan, Emma Newman, Ian McDonald, and Simon Morden.
As the time for signing at the Phoenix is limited we encourage everyone to cross over to Foyles and join the signings there.
