Celebrate 20 years of New York Review Books with a distinguished panel of special guests including classicist and historian Mary Beard (Women & Power), critic, cultural historian and author Marina Warner (Once Upon A Time) and novelist Nadeem Aslam (The Golden Legend), chaired by NYRB founder and editor Edwin Frank.
For the last twenty years New York Review Books Classics have been devoted to two causes: discovering important, previously untranslated books from all over the world, and rediscovering exemplary books in the English language that have fallen into underserved obscurity. This esteemed panel will delve into the depths of the NYRB catalogue to examine the ways in which the past and present talk to each other, and how the authority of tradition might be finding itself diminished in the modern age.
The event will be followed by a Q&A and a book signing.
