The Ruins: Mat Osman in conversation with John Mitchinson
Spend an evening with Mat Osman—author and bass player of acclaimed British rock band Suede—as he opens the pages on his intoxicating new novel of magic, music and murder The Ruins.
Sitting down with John Mitchinson—co-founder of Unbound and co-host of the award-winning podcast series Backlisted—Osman will draw us into his turbulent 2010, where UK banks are on the edge of oblivion, a volcano is erupting in Iceland, and marauding gunmen sport Donald Duck masks. Against this disconcerting backdrop, shy, stuttering protagonist Adam Kussgarten must step into a criminal underworld to find out the truth about his estranged twin brother's death. Osman will discuss the challenges and rewards of throwing his solitary character into the deep end, as well as Adam's struggle in retaining his sense of self in the midst of deception and violence. Exploring the place where music and literature meet, Osman will talk about the toxicity of the chase for fame and the slow death of the music industry.
The event will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
