Join us for the first 2020 instalment of our hugely popular NYJO Jazz Jam. This session will be lead by award-winning, multi-instrumentalist Tony Kofi.

Having cut his teeth in the Jazz Warriors of the early-90’s, Kofi has gone on to establish himself as a musician, teacher and composer of some authority, and his fluent and fiery hard-bop alto playing is constantly in demand.
As well as for “Nu-Troop” and “Jazz Jamaica”, Kofi’s alto playing has also been a feature of many bands and artists he has worked with include: “US3” Branford Marsalis, Courtney Pine, Donald Byrd, Eddie Henderson, The David Murray Big Band, Sam Rivers, Abdullah Ibrahim, Macy Gray, and The Julian Joseph Big Band.
He currently leads his own Tony Kofi Quartet, Tony Kofi’s Sphinx Trio, Tony Kofi and the Organisation and is also the co-founder of the Monk Liberation Banda group in which plays the music of Thelonious Monk.
His many awards and nominations include: Winner BBC Jazz Awards 2005 (Album of the Year) & 2008 (Best Instrumentalist) Winner, Best Ensemble, Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2005, Nominee, Mobo Awards 2008.

The NYJO Jazz Jam is open to all under 18’s—parents, passers-by and jazz fans are all welcome to stay and enjoy the music. The musicians will kick-start the session with a set at midday, then the floor will open to all those who want to jam*
