A Fabulous Creation: David Hepworth in conversation
Join esteemed music author and broadcaster David Hepworth as he spins you back to a time before digital, to cast his expert eye over the history of the long-play record with writer and broadcaster Mark Ellen.
As he introduces his new book A Fabulous Creation: How The LP Saved Our Lives, Hepworth will delve deep into the cultural influence of the LP— from its role as signifier of wealth and status, to its use as an instrument of education and protest, and the myriad ways it brought a sense of community and togetherness to a generation of music fans.
A Fabulous Creation: How The LP Saved Our Lives tracks the development of the LP, beginning with The Beatles' seminal record Sgt Pepper in 1967 and ending with Michael Jackson’s era-defining Thriller. More than a year-by-year journey, it is a fully-researched, compelling tribute to a pioneering, almost mythical object which brought the recording innovations of musicians into the homes of ordinary folk. In passionate prose brimming with knowledge, Hepworth demonstrates how the LP forever changed the way we listen to and make music—the possibilities it opened, and the new dreams it spurred in the minds of millions.
The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing.
