The Last Poets

With roots in a time of a political upheaval and great social unrest, The Last Poets revolutionised music and in doing so inspired the hip-hop movements in the United States of the 1980’s and 90’s.  Formed in what was believed to be ‘the last era of poetry’ these African‐American poets and musicians ignited the imagination of a generation and made history with their writing and music.

Christine Otten, author of the literary biopic The Last Poets, talks to the group’s founders Umar Bin Hassan, Abiodun Oyewole and Baba Donn Babatunde about their lives, art, and the writing of the book.
