The Monk of Mokha: An evening with Mokhtar Alkhanshali

Monday 5th March 2018 7pm - 8:30pm 107 Charing Cross Road Literary Event, Chargeable Event

The Monk of Mokha, the new book from author Dave Eggers, is the true story of Yemeni American entrepreneur, Mokhtar Alkhanshali, who dreams of resurrecting the ancient art of Yemeni coffee but finds himself trapped in Sana’a by civil war.

Mokhtar became fascinated with the rich history of coffee in Yemen and returned to his ancectral home to resurrect Yemens rapidly deteriorating coffee trade. When civil war breaks out Mokhtar has to fight for his life to escape and bring his amazing coffees back to America.

Combining his knowledge of specialty coffee production, progressive infrastructure strategy and community organizing, Mokhtar now owns and operates Port of Mokha. Which has helped to reverse the declining quality of Yemeni coffee and re-establish it as the one of industries most treasured origins.

At this exclusive London event, meet the man at the heart of Dave Eggers' new work of non-fiction, as Mokhtar tells us his incredible story in his own words and takes us through the historical journey of coffee. There will also be the opportunity to try coffee from a local London roaster, under the guidance of Mokhtar.

This event is a hot ticket for all coffee lovers - and all lovers of great storytelling.

Tickets: £5 standard (booking fees apply).

Venue: The Auditorium at Foyles, Level 6, 107 Charing Cross Road
