Darren Shan's Christmas Picks

10th November 2015

It's always intriguing to know what books authors themselves are giving or hope to receive this Christmas and they were happy to let us in on the secret. We start the series with Darren Shan.

Based on books I’ve read and enjoyed over the last year or so, I’ll be looking to give I Am Pilgrim, by Terry Hayes, to any adults I know who love a cracking good thriller. For teenagers who want something creepy, I’ll opt for The Ocean At End Of The Lane, by Neil Gaiman, which features one of the most disturbing scenes I’ve read for many a year – indeed, I think this book might freak out adults more than teenagers. And for younger readers, I’ll brighten up their Christmas with Demolition Dad, by Phil Earle, which proves that grown men should never be afraid to pull on a pair of (wrestling) tights! As for a book I would like to receive... I’m a big Stephen King fan, and I haven’t picked up Finders Keepers yet, so that would be a most welcome stocking filler.

Darren Shan’s books include the series Zom-B, The Saga of Darren Shan, The Demonata and The Saga of Larten Crepsley. Read his exclusive article for Foyles in which he discusses the joys and challenges of creating long series, and provides an insight into his writing process.
