Deputy PM Nick Clegg to speak at Guardian Hay Festival

27th May 2010

Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg has joined the roster of famous speakers at this year's Guardian Hay Festival.

Clegg will appear alongside author and human rights campaigner Philippe Sands and the discussion is expected to take in a range of contentious topics, including electoral reform, the Chilcot inquiry and the impact of the coalition between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats on UK politics.

Other MPs speaking at the festival include universities and science minister David Willetts, Jesse Norman and Labour Party leadership candidate Ed Miliband.

Festival director Peter Florence told the Guardian: 'This is perhaps the most civilised and brilliant group of MPs you could imagine; rather an encouraging group of people. They have supra-Westminster skills and great knowledge.'

He claimed that the politicians are likely to be more open and responsive to questioning than they are in Westminster.

The Hay Festival opens today (May 27th) and will run until June 6th.
