V&A names Exhibition Road design project winner
30th March 2011
Amanda Levete Architects has come out on top in a contest to decide who will take forward the V&A's Exhibition Road extension plans.
Following the major design competition, which saw seven architectural practices shortlisted in total, the V&A will be enhanced to feature a public courtyard and new galleries.
The museum's board of trustees chairman, Paul Ruddock, said that the project will provide the V&A with essential improvement work.
Commenting on the museum's website, he stated: 'This new development will transform the way the V&A is able to present its major exhibitions and will enable us to reveal and restore the magnificent south courts.'
Heneghan.peng.architects, Jamie Fobert Architects and Jun Aoki & Associates were among the other organisations that were shortlisted as part of the Exhibition Road contest.
Forthcoming exhibitions at the V&A include The Cult of Beauty: The Aesthetic Movement 1860-1900 and Figures & Fictions: Contemporary South African Photography.
