If you think working in a bookshop is like working in a sweet shop, you are absolutely right. My oh my, these books are difficult to resist. In my case however, it’s not the just the books that are tempting; the stationery beckons just as much. I’m fairly sure the stationery display table at Charing Cross Road holds some sort of mermaid-style entrancing powers. So I yield. Below are the items to which I couldn’t say no.

Leuchtturm Orange Medium Dotted Notebook
This is my trusted journal. It is full of possibility: the page numbering and blank table of contents let you create your own index, and the dotted printing allows for all kinds of creativity- writing, drawing, bulleting… The paper is perfect, thinner than in most notebooks but still resistant. And all of this comes in a sturdy colourful cover you can label using the sticker inserts. I just love this notebook. To bits.
Black Kaweco Classic Fountain Pen Medium Nib
By far the most comfortable fountain pen I’ve ever used. It’s so small and light that it seems to disappear while I write. I could easily carry it in my pocket, but it’s so elegant that I think of it as my special pen, and keep it in a safe place. I even use it with the Kaweco Ruby Red ink to make each writing session that much more memorable.
I’m not an artistic person, and use my stationery for writing only. All the same, I love MT Tape. I use it to divide up ideas and paragraphs, or simply as a colourful little fresco at the bottom of a page. No matter how serious the content of the writing, MT Tape makes it joyful. It’s also very good at eliminating bad sentences that have infiltrated your writing – just cover them up with pretty colours, it’s all good.
Two Way Deco Pen Set
These are my work friends. They highlight my reminders and colour-code my to-do lists. Their minimalistic look also means I can take them to meetings. The thick nibs are very long-lasting: I’ve been using them every day for several months, but the colours have yet to fade. As for the fine tips, they make for a striking and refined script on the days when a plain biro doesn’t quite suffice.
Traveler’s Notebook Sticky Notes
If you like your stationery to be both functional and pretty, these sticky notes are for you. They don’t roll or peel off, and they add a stylish touch to your notebooks. I especially like the big squared note, which I use to add comments or omitted points to my diary entries. The slim notes with darker tips are excellent to mark out quotes in my books. As a bonus, because they are meant to be inserted into a Traveler’s Notebook, these sticky notes come in a nice plastic sleeve that keeps them neat and protected.
