Wellcome Book Prize

Wellcome Book PrizeThe Wellcome Book Prize was set up in 2009 to stimulate interest and debate about medical science through books and reading. Any book on the topic published in the previous calendar year, whether fiction or non-fiction, is eligible, as are books translated from languages other than English. (Academic titles, picture books and diet books are not eligible.)

The 2018  announced on 30 April at Wellcome Collection, was Mark O'Connell for To Be a Machine: Adventures among cyborgs, utopians, hackers and the futurists solving the modest problem of death.

The chair of judges, Edmund de Waal described it as: “A passionate, entertaining and cogent examination of those who would choose to live forever”
