THE ICONIC FLAGSHIP ON LONDON’S CHARING CROSS ROAD
‘If Foyles don’t have it, no-one does.’
While we can’t quite live up to that old saying, the spirit of our iconic Charing Cross Road flagship is built around just that: we’ve got the books, from the one you’re looking for to the ones you haven’t heard of yet.
107-109 Charing Cross Road is the newest incarnation of our flagship ‘cathedral of books’. In 2014 we moved from our beloved (if ramshackle) old premises to the former site of Central Saint Martin’s art college, working with architects Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands to design a ‘bookshop of the future’. Built around a central, skylit atrium, with winding stairs and three accessible lifts, this book lover’s paradise flows down across eight mezzanine plates and offers over 200,000 different books across a range of specialist departments, from Fiction to Children’s to Art to Military History to Education, all run by friendly, expert booksellers.
You’ll encounter shops within the shop that specialise in things you won’t find on an ordinary high street: Level 2 is the home of Ray’s Jazz, our dedicated shop for jazz CDs and vinyl, as well as our unbeatable Classical CD & DVD department, our Sheet Music selection, and British and World cinema on DVD & Blu-Ray. On Level 4 you’ll find our extensive Languages department, incorporating Grant & Cutler, where you can browse learning materials and literature in around 100 languages, supplied from publishers the world over.
Level 5 hosts our stellar Café at Foyles where you can stop by for a drink or to sample the regularly-changing menu of seasonal, fresh food—all made onsite by our caterers Leafi.
At the very top of the bookshop the Level 6 Auditorium plays the stage to our busy, year-round programme of literary events, where we introduce new writers and welcome back famous and familiar faces, as well as host jazz gigs, workshops and more. See what’s coming up in our events listings.
