The T S Eliot Prize for Poetry

The T S Eliot Prize is an annual prize for a poetry collection awarded by the Poetry Book Society, which was established in 1953 by T S Eliot himself. The Prize was first awarded on the 40th anniversary of the Society's founding, with the prize money provided by Eliot's widow.

The 2017 winner was Ocean Vuong for his debut collection of poetry, Night Sky With Exit Wounds.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the prize the prize money has been increased to £25,000 and the judges selected this year's shortlist from a record 154 poetry collections submitted by publishers.

Commenting on this year's shortlist W.N. Herbert said: “This was a very strong year, and it was a privilege to read so many books that possessed as well as intrigued us; our shortlist explores grief, pleasure, place and history in a formidable variety of ways.”
