 
This event is now sold out Twenty-one years ago, the first Vintage book appeared on our shelves, and the list was expanded in 2007 to include Vintage Classics. To mark the occasion, join us to hear some of Vintage's most celebrated writers discuss the classic works that have shaped their careers. Vintage Classics brings together some of greatest writers from previous centuries, such as Jane Austen, Lewis Carroll and Henry James, and publishes them alongside contemporary writers such as Haruki Murakami, Ian McEwan and Martin Amis, to bring you some of the best writers of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
10.30am-11.30am Vintage Villains From mutinous pirate Long John Silver to cold and calculating Count Dracula and ruthless schemer Steerpike, we all love a good literary villain to bring excitement and drama to a story. Jake Arnott, bestselling author of The Long Firm, Sadie Jones, award-winning author of The Outcast and Small Wars and Sebastian Peake, son of Gormenghast creator and illustrator Mervyn Peake, debate who they think is the greatest literary villain. Chaired by arts critic and freelance journalist Viv Groskop who appears regularly on BBC Radio 4 and on Sky News. 11.45am-12.45pm Rose Tremain in Conversation Internationally acclaimed and award-winning author Rose Tremain discusses her literary influences and her latest bestseller Trespass, with Di Speirs, Editor of BBC Radio's London Readings Unit and judge of the BBC National Short Story Award.

Acclaimed author, illustrator and screenwriter Mark Haddon (author of the award-winning bestsellers The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time and A Spot of Bother) will be in conversation with Lionel Shriver (author of the Orange Prize-winning novel We Need to Talk About Kevin) about which classic novels they would pass on to the next generation, with novelist and playwright Kate Mosse, Co-Founder of the Orange Prize for Fiction. 3pm-3.45pm Archive Hour Jean Rose and Alison Hennessey from Vintage Publishing will talk about the hidden gems and lost classics that have been rediscovered in the Random House archives, including Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway's Party and A. A. Milne's The Red House Mystery.
4pm-5pm Faulks on Fiction Sebastian Faulks, one of our most celebrated writers and presenter of BBC 2's Faulks on Fiction discusses his most recent bestseller A Week in December and the classic fiction that has shaped his extraordinary career, with James Walton, critic and writer and presenter of Radio 4's books quiz The Write Stuff.
