Synopsis

This first career-spanning monograph from mid-century illustrator John Rombola is poised to reveal his spirited, playful style to a new generation of art buffs, illustration mavens, and fans of good design. One of the most astonishing things about Robola's drawings is that they feel as fresh and contemporary today as when they first were published a half century ago. As such, they are ripe to delight, astonish, and amuse fans of the rampant renaissance in illustration that we have seen in recent years. A treasure trove of inspiration and visual fun, this hefty volume is a must-have for any graphic arts book collection.

Veronique Vienne is the author of Something to Be Desired: Essays on Design, Chip Kidd Monographics, The Art of Imperfection, and The Art of Doing Nothing, and is a frequent contributor to Graphis and Metropolis magazines. She lives in Paris, France. Melissa Tardiff is a designer and art director. She is Associate Creative Director of Digitas where she specializes in Web design and works with Fortune 100 companies. She designed the book Slim Aarons: Once Upon a Time. She lives in New York City. .John Rombola works primarily in gouache and ink on paper. He started his career illustrating for magazines, and his illustrations have appeared in Life, Holiday, and Town and Country. His work is held in the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt. He lives in Brooklyn.
