Hilary of Poitiers: His Life and Impact (Paperback)

Pre-order for despatch on publication.

Hilary became Bishop of Poitiers in around

350 and lived through a time of political upheaval and open persecution against the Church. During the fairly short time that he held this office, he fought fiercely against internal heresies: many forms of Gnosticism, Arianism in particular. Relatively little is known about his life, however, his works clearly show a man of intense principle, not merely concerned for his own diocese,

but seeking to spread the true gospel anywhere that people were being deceived by counterfeit teachings.

Michael Ovey writes the story of Hilary with a clear love and enjoyment. Discussing issues such as disputes between groups within Bible-believing churches and when to resist wrongful use of power by those in lawful authority, he also shows the poignant relevance that this Father's life and experiences have today.

Series description:

The early Church Fathers are the pioneers of our faith, but few of us even know their names - let alone understand how they lived. The Early Church Fathers

series relates the magnificent impact that these men made for our world today.

The challenges they faced, heresies they fought, and, most importantly, the beautiful truths from Scripture that they first discovered and shared make their stories an inspiration. Other titles from the ten-volume series already in print:

Patrick of Ireland

Cyprian of Carthage

Basil of Caesarea
