Synopsis

Building Energy Management Systems and Techniques: Principles, Methods, and Modelling presents the basic concepts, methodologies, modeling techniques, and fundamental design schemes of building energy management systems. Covering the latest developments and methodologies from academia and industry, the book brings together energy management, demand response, evolutionary computation, and fundamental programming. The book's authors explore all the basic concepts related to building energy management systems and put them into the context of smart grids, demand response and demand side management, Internet of Things, and distributed renewable energy.

Advanced topics provide the reader with an understanding of various energy management scenarios and procedures for modern buildings in an automatic and highly renewable-penetrated building environment. This includes a range of energy management techniques for building-side energy resources such as battery energy storage systems, plug-in appliances, and HVAC systems.

Dr. Fengji Luo is an academic fellow and lecturer at School of Civil Engineering. He is a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Alumni Association in Australia(JSPSAAA). The following is his publication summary: 4 book chapters, 86 journal papers, 49 conference papers and 1 technical report. His research interest includes sustainably powering human society through demand-side energy management of user-oriented environments, including buildings, microgrids and other urban energy infrastructure. Gianluca Ranzi is currently a professor in School of Civil Engineering at The University of Sydney. He is also the director in the Centre for Advanced Structural Engineering in the same university. He is a member of ARC College of Experts, an Australian Research Council. His publication summary includes 7 books, 134 journal papers and 138 conference papers. His work aims at producing technological developments that enhance building functionalities, with particular focus on adaptive structural systems that improve indoor comfort conditions, building technologies for the mitigation of urban heat island effects and energy demand side management strategies for the building-to-grid integration. He also studies the behaviour of concrete and composite steel-concrete structures and other building materials and contributes to the development of technical guidelines and safety standards for buildings, bridges and other infrastructure. Professor Dong is a director of UNSW Digital Grid Futures Institute and ARC Research Hub for Integrated Energy Storage Solutions. Professor Dong's research interest includes power system planning and stability, smart grid/micro-grid, load modeling, renewable energy grid connection, electricity market, computational methods applications in power engineering problems. He has/had served as editor/associate editor for a number of IEEE transactions and IET journals. He is a Fellow of IEEE, and a Web of Science listed highly cited researcher in 2019, 2020.
