William (Bill) Thomas isEmeritus Professor of Accounting and a Master Teacher at Baylor University. ABaylor University alumnus, he received both his BBA and MBA there and went onto earn his PhD from The University of Texas at Austin.
With primary interests in theareas of financial accounting and auditing, Dr. Thomas has served as the J.E.Bush Professor of Accounting since 1995. He has been a member of the faculty ofthe Accounting and Business Law Department of the Hankamer School of Businesssince 1971 and served as chair of the department for 12 years. He has beenrecognized as an Outstanding Faculty Member of Baylor University as well as aDistinguished Professor for the Hankamer School of Business. Dr. Thomas hasreceived many awards for outstanding teaching, including the OutstandingProfessor in the Executive MBA Programs as well as the designation of MasterTeacher.
Thomas is the author of textbooksin auditing and financial accounting, as well as many articles in auditing,financial accounting and reporting, taxation, ethics, and accounting education.His scholarly work focuses on the subject of fraud prevention and detection, aswell as ethical issues among accountants in public practice. He presentlyserves as the accounting and auditing editor of Todays CPA, thejournal of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, with acirculation of approximately 28,000.
Thomas is a Certified PublicAccountant in Texas. Prior to becoming a professor, Thomas was a practicingaccountant with the firms of KPMG, LLP, and BDO Seidman, LLP. He is a member ofthe American Accounting Association, the American Institute of CPAs andAssociation of International Certified Professional Accountants, and the TexasSociety of Certified Public Accountants.
Wendy M. Tietz isa professor in the Department of Accounting in the College of BusinessAdministration at Kent State University. She teaches introductory financial andmanagerial accounting in a variety of formats, including large sections, smallsections, and online sections.
Dr. Tietz is a Certified PublicAccountant (Ohio), a Certified Management Accountant, and a Chartered GlobalManagement Accountant. She is a member of the American Accounting Association,the Institute of Management Accountants, the American Institute of CPAs andAssociation of International Certified Professional Accountants, and theSustainability Accounting Standards Board Alliance. She has published articlesin such journals as Issues in Accounting Education, AccountingEducation: An International Journal, IMA Educational Case Journal, and Journalof Accounting & Public Policy. Dr. Tietz is also the coauthor of amanagerial accounting textbook, Managerial Accounting, with Dr.Karen Braun. She received the 2017 Bea Sanders/AICPA Innovation in TeachingAward for her web tool for financial accounting instructors, the AccountingCase Template. In 2016, Dr. Tietz was awarded the Jim Bulloch Award forInnovations in Management Accounting Education from the American AccountingAssociation/Institute of Management Accountants for her accounting educatorblog, Accounting in the Headlines. She also received the 2014 Bea Sanders/AICPAInnovation in Teaching Award for her blog. She regularly presents at AAAregional and national meetings. She is intensely interested in the power ofstorytelling, interactivity, and social media as educational practices topromote engagement and understanding.
Dr. Tietz earned her PhD from KentState University. She received both her MBA and BSA from the University ofAkron. Prior to teaching, she worked in the industry for several years, both asa controller for a financial institution and as the operations manager andcontroller for a recycled plastics manufacturer.
Themin Suwardy is the Dean of PostgraduateProfessional Programmes and Associate Professor of Accounting at SMU. Prior tojoining academia, Themin was an auditor with KPMG Peat Marwick. He graduatedwith a BBA in Accountancy, a Bachelor of Computing (Information System), andreceived his PhD from Monash University, Australia.
He has received over 20 SMU and international teaching awards,including SMU Best MBA Core Teacher Award five times, EMBA Most OutstandingFaculty Award three times, and three SMU university-wide teaching awards. He isa recipient of the Hewlett-Package Mobile Technology for Teaching Grant Award(2004) and the inaugural CEEMAN's Champion Award for Management Teaching(2010). In 2011, he was accorded Singapore's Public Administration Medal(Bronze) for his contribution to education.
Dr. Suwardy has been active member of the accounting professionthrough his involvement over the years in numerous professional bodies,including CPA Australia (President of Singapore Division, 2013-2014), IIASingapore, SAC, ISCA, and served as the vice-president of the InternationalAssociation for Accounting Education and Research. In 2015, he was conferredthe Lifetime Achievement Award by CPA Australia for his contributions to theaccounting profession.
Dr. Suwardy's main research areas include financial reporting andanalysis, corporate governance, and accounting education. He is an associateeditor of Accounting Education. He has consulted and worked with KPMG ForensicsSingapore, DFS Singapore, Singapore Airlines, HP, the Accounting and CorporateRegulatory Authority of Singapore (ACRA), among others.
