Oil Equity means the proportion of production that a concession owner has the legal and contractual right to retain. In other words Oil equity can also be understood as: Oil and natural gas exploration overseas (including oil sand and oil shale), Explorations & development of oil fields and/or liquefaction of natural gas overseas, and Acquisition of overseas oil and natural gas assets in view of unfavorable demand supply balance of hydrocarbons in the country, acquiring equity oil and gas assets overseas is one of the important components of enhancing energy security. The Government is encouraging Oil PSUs to aggressively pursue equity oil and gas opportunities overseas and assets acquisitions overseas, due to increasing dependence on crude oil and growing demand of crude oil in India. To meet its spiraling demand, India is investing heavily in oil fields abroad. The government has tried to increase domestic exploration and production through at least three different policies designed to: encourage investment, strengthen the NOCs, and improve recovery.

This book identifies six core areas of Exploration & Production Sector, Oil Equity & Assets Acquisition Abroad, Geopolitics of Energy and its impact on Oil equity Acquisition, Achieving Energy Security through Acquisition of Oil Equity, Oil Security Challenges & Strategies and Country Up-Stream Contracts & Entry Strategies to understand the concepts of Oil equity by addressing the global geopolitics of energy.
