Stress is a normal, necessary and inevitable part of daily life. Each of us has an optimum stress level which allows efficient functioning. Too little pressure and we can become lethargic, lacking energy and underachieving, too much can provide a risk to health which in its way can reduce effectiveness and lead to exhaustion and mental breakdown. This book aims to assist in coping with stress and to manage and or prevent stress accordingly. At the adolescent stage stress can have a particularly strong effect and as a result this book aims to help teenagers cope with the pressures that result. The opening strategies look at the nature, causes and effects of stress as it exists in the lives of young people. Strategy three helps students to identify and evaluate different ways on handling stress and strategies four to six look at ways of preventing stress through a healthy lifestyle, assertion and effective time management. The book also draws attention to the importance of friends who are prepared to listen and the role of a positive outlook, it helps students identify the stressors in their own lives and helps establish behaviour goals.

The programme concludes with a board game on stress and evaluatuions of the student's response to the course.
