Synopsis

Uncover truth, live smarter and see the world like never before.

Numbers have escaped from maths class and they're everywhere! They are splashed across papers, buildings, on social media and overheard in everyday conversation from rising living costs to a global pandemic.

Do these numbers and stats make your head spin? Well you're in luck in the THE TRUTH DETECTIVE you're going to discover Tim Harford's 10 simple rules to help make sense of the world around us. You'll even find out that numbers can help you find TRUTH and in the right hands they have the power to change things for the better. So, prepare to transform into a TRUTH DETECTIVE, ask the right questions, keep your cool and never be tripped up by numbers ever again...

Grab your detective caps and magnifying glasses and follow Tim Harford as he takes you on journey deep into the world of fake news, forgery and dodgy data. You'll meet heroic truth detectives such as Florence Nightingale and Galileo, wicked fraudsters and Gulross- the pooping cow that beats professional bankers at their own game. You'll see dinosaurs facing off double decker buses and ten-pound notes stacked so high the reach the moon. Along the way you will discover how to distrust disinformation and bad research, decode and make sense of the numbers that swirl around us, and pick up the tools for thinking critically, curiously and confidently about what we believe.
