Synopsis

This book examines the social and educational experiences of children identified as having special educational needs. The study compares research carried out in Germany and France in French. The generalization of inclusive practices in schools all over the world needs to be carefully examined in terms of its real inclusiveness. This study focuses on the quality of experience of children with disabilities in the inclusive classroom, how children experience their peer relationships in this particular setting. The threefold approach of this work enhances our knowledge of educational systems and their impact on a microlevel (the classroom), to contribute to the construction of the field of sociology of childhood (with the challenge of children as research participants) and the change of perspective from a mainly psychological lens on inclusive education towards a sociological examination of inclusion.
