Synopsis

This study examines texts from a range of cultures, exploring differences in technique and point of view in the presentation and evaluation of innocence. It explores eight texts, arraying them on a scale of increasing complexity. The texts include: an untitled Manx tale by Neddy Beg Hom Ruy; a Navaho autobiography, "Son of Old Man Hat"; Kenneth Grahame's "The Wind in the Willows"; Mediz Bolio's "La Tierra del Fais y del Venado"; Kafka's "Elf Sohne"; Diderot's "Neveu de Rameau"; and Gombrowicz's "Pornografia".
