Synopsis

A perfect life ... until she discovered it wasn't her own.

A tragic family event reveals devastating news that rips apart Bella's comfortable existence. Embarking on a personal journey to uncover the truth, she faces a series of traumatic discoveries that take her to the ruggedly beautiful Cornish coast, where hidden truths, past betrayals and a 25-year-old mystery threaten not just her identity, but also her life.

Chilling, complex and profoundly moving, In Her Wake is a gripping psychological thriller that questions the nature of family - and reminds us that sometimes the most shocking crimes are committed closest to home.

`Astonishingly good and utterly haunting' Oxford Times

'A gripping concept powers this emotional, sinuous thriller in which one woman's life is played out against what might have been' Fanny Blake, Woman & Home

`Heartbreaking and emotionally stunning ... one of the most mature genre novels I've read for a long time' Scottish Herald

`This mesmerising & haunting thriller is a true literary beauty.' Heat

`Hauntingly beautiful' Clare Mackintosh

`Thoughtful, atmospheric and deeply immersive, it wields an almost mesmeric power over the reader' Hannah Beckerman

`A writer of rare and exceptional talent' Steve Cavanagh

`Amanda Jennings propels herself into my list of favourite writers' Luca Veste

Amanda Jennings made her literary debut with internationally bestselling Sworn Secret. Her second book, The Judas Scar, was optioned by a film and television production company shortly after release. She is fascinated by how people react to trauma and deal with its long-lasting effects, and also the relationships that exist within a family unit. She used to work at the BBC but now writes full-time and looks after her three daughters and menagerie of animals. She writes a popular blog and is a regular guest on BBC Berkshire's Book Club. She enjoys running, writing workshops, is a judge for the Henley Youth Festival creative writing competition, and is involved with the Womentoring Project, which offers free mentoring by professional literary women to talented up-and-coming female writers who might otherwise not have access to such an opportunity. She is a regular speaker at festivals and book events, combining her childhood love of the stage with her love of writing. She likes to be active, preferably beside the sea or at the top of a snow-covered mountain, and when she isn't writing she can usually be found walking her dog and enjoying the peace and solitude of the great outdoors. Customer Reviews

In Her Wake" written by Amanda Jennings is one brilliantly, mesmerising and compelling book that left me in quite a daze if not speechless once I'd finished. I truly wanted this story to last forever and savoured every word on every page. Such beautiful, beautiful writing with wonderfully well developed characters even though they were often damaged. Sublime, creative and at times fabulously emotive narrative and dialogue rounded off this unique and moving book. This story is just so full of feeling and emotion and slow burning suspense that one minute I was smiling the next I was full of tears as the story continued to unfold page by page. 'A perfect life … until she discovered it wasn’t her own. A tragic family event reveals devastating news that rips apart Bella’s comfortable existence. Embarking on a personal journey to uncover the truth, she faces a series of traumatic discoveries that take her to the ruggedly beautiful Cornish coast, where hidden truths, past betrayals and a 25-year-old mystery threaten not just her identity, but also her life.' Living by the coast myself, I imagined every scene at Cornwall with such clarity to a point I could hear the waves and smell the salt air. The last few chapters sent shivers down my spine and I totally refused to stop reading until it was completely finished. There's so much I want to talk about but can't as it would spoil it for those who haven't read it yet but I will say this book MUST be read, its divine, gripping and contains many genres to keep a whole audience of readers happy and fully immersed - crime, psychological, family drama etc - all of which combine to make "In Her Wake" an unputdownable book which will stay with me for a VERY long time. Loved, loved it and loved it some more and I highly recommend, it's one of those atmospheric books you will feel so much better for reading. Amanda Jennings you are a star writer and I am now your number one fan! 5 stars and then some!!!
