Where the Poppies Weep (Paperback)

Despatched in 2 business days.

Manchester 1903, young James plays in the squalid streets, never imagining it's an apprenticeship to the horror of the forthcoming war, or its consequences.

Volunteering later, he is sent to France and Ireland, where he learns to hate, and to endure, but also to love. Like millions of others, he must confront and overcome appalling difficulties simply to survive.

Heartache and loss will make him stronger, innocence giving way to belief that he has to fight for what is right, when not all his enemies are obvious.

The war over, torment continues at home as he re-adjusts to reality, until a final dreadful confrontation.

The author spent a long career as a Training Manager, Lecturer, Commercial Diver, and senior Diving Instructor, travelling the World in the process. Initially growing up in South Devon before moving to the North of England. Now retired, he enjoys holidays closer to home in the West Country and Europe with his wife, sampling all the ordinary things he never found time for before, like hill walking, reading historical novels, music and theatre, but most of all writing. Delving into his own family history to reveal his roots and those of his ancestors also occupies his time. He is passionate and fascinated by all aspects of British history and anything to do with the sea and marine life. Having written six full length illustrated articles for sport and hobby magazines, plus numerous short contributions. He is also co-author/contributor to six diver training manuals, which were sold world-wide, Sport Diving and Advanced Sport Diving 1990, and a light hearted book, Coarse Scuba-Diving 1990, a collection of humorous diving stories. Not wanting to rest on his laurels, there are three or four other historical, and comedic stories in the pipeline likely to be published soon.
