Synopsis

Few television dramas in recent years have made such an impact with critics and fans alike as BBC One's award-winning Life on Mars. There's been nothing else like it, with its 1970s setting and its unique blend of crime, science fiction, mystery and humour - plus of course the compelling human drama of its ever-present question: will Sam make it home?

Where volume one of THE OFFICIAL COMPANION explored in detail the genesis and making of the show, volume two takes the story of this ground-breaking series to its conclusion with a range of features from views on how it ended to the making of a legend in the character of Gene Hunt. Illustrated with hundreds of on-set photos and drawings, its witty, incisive text and sublime design, with just enough of a nod to seventies style, combine to provide the ultimate viewers' guide.

Guy Adams trained and worked as an actor for twelve years before becoming a full-time writer. If nothing else this proves he has no concept of a sensible career. He mugged someone on Emmerdale, performed a dance routine as Hitler, and spent eighteen months touring his own comedy material around clubs and theatres. He is the author of the bestselling Rules of Modern Policing: 1973 Edition, a spoof police manual 'written by' DCI Gene Hunt of Life On Mars. Published by Transworld, it has sold over 120,000 copies. Guy has also written a two-volume series companion to the show published by Simon & Schuster; a Torchwood novel, The House That Jack Built (BBC Books); and The Case Notes of Sherlock Holmes, a fictional facsimile of a scrapbook kept by Doctor John Watson. Carlton Books published it in 2009 in association with the Estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the writer's birth. Lee Thompson is a writer/designer who is working closely with Kudos Film & TV.
