Synopsis

Die vom Mythos umgebene Gestalt Friedrichs II. von Hohenstaufen hat 1994, im Jahr seines achthundertsten Geburtstags, insbesondere in Italien grosses Interesse geweckt, wo der Staufer seit 1198 als Koenig von Sizilien regiert und das er spater stark in seine Reichspolitik einbezogen hat. Das Deutsche Historische Institut in Rom nahm das Gedenkjahr zum Anlass, eine Bilanz zum gegenwartigen Stand der Forschungen zu Herrschaftsanspruch und -praxis in der Italien-Politik Friedrichs II. zu ziehen. Die 25 Beitrage des vorliegenden Tagungsbandes gehen deshalb genauso auf die jungsten Editionsunternehmen ein, wie auch auf die aktuellen Forschungsdiskussionen um die Effizienz und den Modernitatsgrad der Verwaltungs- und Wirtschaftsreformen des Koenigs von Sizilien. Weitere Schwerpunkte des Bandes bilden das kulturelle Umfeld, die religioese Stimmung der Zeit und die Ruckwirkungen des kaiserlichen Machtanspruches auf einige italienische Regionen wie die Toskana und die Romagna sowie die Architektur der Stauferburgen in Suditalien.
