Synopsis

The SSNP has been both heavily persecuted and the perpetuator of violence in the Middle East since before Syria and Lebanon's independence all the way to its present engagement in the Syrian Civil War. It is perhaps the region's most resilient political survivor. A little known secular party that has been mostly regarded by the international community as a far-right and radical force that has gained little political traction and whose role is largely subservient to the Syrian Arab Socialist Baath Party which dictates its activities from Damascus.

This book proposes that the SSNP's story remains largely untold. Its early history and political impact resonates throughout the region's secular and progressive parties even today. As Syria enters the final stages of its ongoing civil war, the SSNP could either stand to gain political prominence or act as an underground anti-Islamist resistance force in the event that the Assad regime should collapse.
