Synopsis

Evoking revolt, repression and war, but also immutable freedom in the face of tyranny, this powerful allegory of revolution by French artist Sara is a visual narrative charged with graphic emotion. Winner of the 2005 Biennale of Illustrations at Bratislava.

SARA is an author and illustrator who has lived and worked in Paris for over thirty years. Her books include La Laisse rouge, A Quai, and the play S'envoler. Most recently, Sara contributed the art for Enchaine by French author Valerie Dayre, and to Les Metamorphoses d'Ovide, a visual rendering of the classical text. Sara's torn-paper technique, which originated as a creative means at a time when she lacked the money to purchase paints or canvas, has been featured in exhibitions across Europe and Asia. In 2006, pieces from Revolution and A Quai were shown in several museums in Japan.
