Mabel Smith, BSN, MN, JD, PhD, is Dean and Professor at the University of Southern Nevada School of Nursing. Dr. Smith has many years of experience in nursing, teaching, administration, and law. In her role as Founding Dean and Professor of the University of South Nevada she was responsible for the development and operation of a BSN program. As a practicing attorney she conducted bench and/or jury trials in the areas of domestic relations, criminal law, medical malpractice, and personal injury. She has authored over 26 journal articles on legal issues. Most recently, Dr. Smith conducted a Webinar for the Center for American Nurses on Emerging Legal Issues in Higher Education. She published the first edition of The Legal, Professional, and Ethical Dimensions of Higher Education.
