Frank E. Zachos is head of the Mammal Collection at the Natural History Museum Vienna, Austria, affiliated lecturer at the University of Vienna and affiliated professor at the Department of Genetics at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He studied biology, history of science and philosophy in Kiel and Jena, Germany, and received his PhD in zoology in 2005. In 2009, he completed his habilitation for zoology and evolutionary biology. His main research topics comprise the intraspecific biodiversity, phylogeography, population genetics and conservation of mammals and birds, with a particular focus on red deer and other ungulates. He also has a long-standing interest in species concepts and the species problem as well as other theoretical and philosophical issues in evolutionary biology and systematics. He is the editor-in-chief of the journal Mammalian Biology and the editor of the Mammalia series within the Handbook of Zoology. Luca Corlatti (born 1980) is a postdoctoral researcher at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg (Germany), Chair of Wildlife Ecology and Management. He obtained a MSc in Forest and Environmental Sciences at the University of Padua (Italy) in 2006. After research experiences in Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Scotland, he obtained a PhD in Evolutionary Biology at the University of Siena (Italy) in 2013. In 2015 he was recipient of a Marie Curie-Sklodowska fellowship at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (Germany). His research interests primarily focus on the ecology, behavior and management of mountain-dwelling ungulates. He is associate editor of Mammalian Biology and Wildlife Biology, and member of the Caprinae Specialist Group of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
