Synopsis

How are people connected to places, and how is creativity linked to family relationships? The book makes a new challenge to the genealogical model of kinship in anthropology, formulating it instead in terms of "creativity" and land relationships using the north coast of Papua New Guinea as an example. The argument, making reference to rituals of marriage, exchange, and artistic production, yields a fresh perspective on the connections people trace with one another.
