ZED Books

Indie publisher ZED Books have a radical approach to their books and their company structure. Established 40 years ago, in 1977, Zed is the world’s biggest English-language publishing collective. They have a unique structure in the publishing world with the publishing house being owned and managed by its workers. Possibly most radical of all, all their staff are on equal pay regardless of their position.

With over 2000 titles in their back-catalogue, they specialise in books on international current affairs, LGBT+ culture and politics, race and environment. Browse the selection below to discover the wide-ranging nature of their titles.

Back to Black by Kehinde AndrewsBack to Black by Kehinde Andrews

An engaging, concise and clear-sighted history of black radicalism from Garvey to Black Lives Matter, travelling through Rastafarianism and the Nation of Islam to Assata and Tupac Shakur. Placing movements within the context of international politics and capitalism, Andrews questions whether justice and freedom can ever be achived when racism is embedded so deeply within these systems.

Accessible, authoritative and engrossing, I'd urge anyone with an interest in the struggle to overcome racism to read this right now.

Heather, Campaigns Manager

We have an event with Kehinde Andrews on Thursday 26th July. To find out more and to book tickets, please visit the Event Listing.
