Air Miss

‘Air Miss’ follows the life of Emily Grimshawe, in this semi autobiographical story. From growing up with 3 elder brothers, her education at a Convent and her joining the Women’s Royal Air Force (WRAF) to eventually becoming an Operations Officer at RAF Abingdon. The excitement of her first and only tour is covered in detail, with explanatory illustrations, the majority being in cartoon format. She met her husband at RAF Abingdon but after a few months in Married Quarters he was posted to the Gulf on a 13 month unaccompanied tour at RAF Sharjah.Emily moved back into the Officers Mess for that period and left the WRAF on her husband's return. The story of Emily's limited career brings back memories of the film ‘Private Benjamin’ with Goldie Hawn. Husband Roger always maintains he married Emily for Flight Safety reasons. After reading ‘Air Miss’ you might well agree. The book contains 67 full page illustrations by the writer, highlighting her skill at cartooning.
