Basic Structural Design

An introductory text for civil engineering students new to the concept of structural design. Recognizing that conceptual design is as important as analyzing structural systems, the author focuses on the basic principles underlying good design and also defines current codes of practice and standards. Starting with an examination of basic design philosophy, the author then moves on to cover engineering aspects such as forces and the behaviour of materials and then considers each of the main structural materials in turn.
