Calculus
Synopsis
This text is a by-product of a joint US calculus reform project supported by grants from various organizations. It emphasizes process modelling and analysis, the unifying principles which tie together mathematics and related disciplines. With this workbook and accompanying software, users can solve single algebraic equations using the bisection method, secant method or Newton method. They can also solve systems of equations, find determinants, reduce matrices in their row echelon form, and invert matrices. By manipulating statistics material, users can use computer combinations, permutations, binomial and normal probabilities, and least-square curve fitting. An appendix in the workbook demonstrates how to use the software, and each section includes a tutorial example showing required steps. The text incorporates the use of technology in the study of calculus, thus allowing students to consider how calculus concepts apply to the real world. It also contains extensive computer-generated artwork and tables.
