Captain Weird: and other curious characters
Synopsis
This collection presents the reader with 50 poems that will amuse, challenge, and occasionally frustrate them.
Roy J Lloyd offers his own individual approach to the genre in a variety of styles. Whilst some of the poems appear deceptively simple, others may be seen as being wilfully obscure.
Captain Weird and other curious characters has been divided into two sections: 1990 to 1999, 2000 to 2009.
There are two longer poems in the collection, Half-Life' andTransparent'.
`Half-Life' is a semi-autobiographical work, punctuated with events from his own life and cultural encounters that have influenced his perception of the human condition.
`Transparent' has a more complex nature. The religious or spiritual nature of the piece is merely implicit; ironic even. A complex web of ideas and opposing narratives are supported by a geographical scaffolding.
Roy maintains that any meaning the reader attributes to a poem is just as relevant as any the author intended.
