Consensus and Continuity, 1776-87

A discussion of the Constitution as a progressive document. The author is in general disagreement with Charles Beard's thesis that the document was, in fact, an instrument of conservatism drafted by property holding reactionaries, and sheds new light on the Framers and their intentions.
