Eight Ghosts is a book of new spine-tingling tales written by eight award-winning contemporary authors and inspired by English Heritage’s historic places.

In an English Heritage first, the organisation challenged eight writers to visit our sites and create original fiction based on their experience. The collection includes:

Mark Haddon revisiting a York Cold War Bunker, The Loney’s Andrew Michael Hurley creating an atmospheric story set around Carlisle Castle, Sarah Perry’s tale inspired by Audley End House and Gardens and Jeanette Winterson’s chilling evocation of Pendennis Castle.

A perfect new collection of fireside phantoms to accompany darkening autumn nights.
