These proceedings summarize the symposium held to celebrate the centennial of the birth of Yoshio Nishina, one of the great pioneers of modern physics in Japan. The contributions to this volume include recollaborations of Nishina's life and work as well as reviews of current work in fields in which RIKEN, the famous institute of physical and chemical research of which Nishina was director, is actively engaged.
